In Washington, US ethanol exports have tripled on the year with 470.8 million liters exported in October alone. That’s up from 404.1 million liters in September and 134.4 million liters in October 2010. Exports have soared this year on demand from Brazil as well as E90 exports to Europe.
In France, the International Energy Agency says that global ethanol production growth will slow significantly due to Brazil’s production hiccups as production fell 75,000 barrels per day to 375,000 bpd. In South Africa, Grain SA says that the country’s new biofuel blending policy could boost sorghum production by six-fold to 950,000 metric tons by 2020. He said that the country could supply the ethanol needed for an E10 blend without risking food security.
In China, The Asset reports that Standard Charter has invested US$30 million in starch-based bioplastics producer Ecoplast Technologies. Ecoplast chairman, Xianbing Zhang commented, “The strategic partnership with Standard Chartered has laid a solid foundation for our global expansion and has strengthened our long-term competitive positioning.”
In Malaysia, the new Aerospace Malaysia Innovation Center—funded by grants from the national government, EADS and Rolls Royce–will be first tasked with identifying an optimal algae strain to produce jet fuel domestically. Later priorities will include developing innovative new standards in aero structure manufacturing and sustainable green aeronautic materials.
