Perennial grasses add ethanol yield, mitigate carbon for corn acres

In Illinois, researchers at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champagne have found that growing perennial grasses on the least productive farmland now used for corn ethanol production in the U.S. would result in higher overall corn yields, more ethanol output per acre and better groundwater quality while slashing carbon dioxide and nitrous oxide emissions.

In California, LS9 announced it will carry out a second phase of research with Chevron Technology Ventures. This program is directed at further improving LS9’s platform technology to produce specific pure hydrocarbon products. This second phase follows Chevron’s initial testing and evaluation of LS9’s technology solution. The terms of the funding program were not disclosed.
