#9 Biobased solutions on display at Munich sports convention

In Germany, an annual convention for sports business professions held earlier this month highlighted the outerwear sector’s interest in environmentally friendly solutions, including renewable materials.

Lavalan showcased a natural insulation fleece for outdoor and snow sports. The material is water-repellent thanks to the waxy cuticle of natural wool fibers. Outdoor brand Vaude, which is included in Europe’s EFFECTIVE biobased nylon 6 projects, displayed garments made with the biobased yarns. Südwolle Group promoted wool as a biodegradable solution, along with merino wool blends with hemp, lyocell, linen, silk and biodegradable polyamide Amni Soul Eco. Also in attendance was the Alchemist project, a collaboration between Houdini and PrimaLoft. The Alchemist line uses PrimaLoft Bio, a 100% recycled, biodegradable synthetic material with fibers that attract microbes to break down the material in landfills and waterways. Ternua and Archroma also showcased their EarthColors method of producing dyes from walnut waste.
