#8 Beyond Meat’s Beyond Sausage offers plant-based option with alginate casing

In California, Beyond Meat made Time magazine’s Best Inventions 2018 list with the world’s first fresh, plant-based sausage, beyond sausage. The primary source of protein for the sausage comes from peas, along with fava and rice proteins. The casing is made of alginate, which is obtained from algae. It does not include common allergens gluten or soy, does not contain GMOs or nitrates that are often included in traditional sausage.

It can be purchased at Whole Food grocery stores and usually sells for about $9 for a pack of four sausages. As far as nutrition value, Beyond Sausage is leaner than traditional sausage, with 43% less total fat and 38% less saturated fat.
