Across Europe, Stratus Advisors says that eight of the European Union’s 27 member states have either lowered biofuel blending mandates for the near term or are in discussions to do so in response to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and concerns about food security, but believes that the RePower policy will help to decarbonize Europe and boost consumption of renewable fuels in the longer term. So far, Finland, Croatia and Czech Republic have either reduced blending or eliminated obligations or penalties for failing to blend, while Sweden’s parliament will vote next month, Latvia will decided by July 1, Germany and Belgium are in discussions while Norway is shifting away from crop-based fuels in favor of waste-based.
