In Colombia, former NBA star Isaiah Thomas is leading a full-court press against fossil-based plastics as CEO of One World Products, a licensed hemp and cannabis producer.
His plans for the company include opportunities for hemp in the automotive market. “I envision a future where the Fords, the GMs, the Stellantis’ of the world take plastics out of their automobiles and infuse them with industrial hemp to replace those plastics, thus reducing their carbon footprint,” Thomas recently told Forbes. One World Products recently signed an agreement with Stellantis—owner of Dodge, Chrysler, and Jeep, among others—to develop hemp-based bioplastic components for both interior and exterior parts.
As a former athlete, Thomas, now 61, said he is also excited about the potential for cannabinoids for sleep and easing pain and inflammation.
