Ethanol production down thanks to killer blizzard and Christmas

In Washington, Brownfield Ag News reports Energy Information Administration data shows last week’s unusually cold weather that saw temperatures tumble well below freezing for much of the country together with the Christmas holidays pushed down ethanol production to the lowest level seen since early October at 963,000 barrels. Despite lower production, stocks rose to a 37-week high of 24.636 million barrels amidst negative crushing margins for most ethanol plants in Iowa, according to analysis from Iowa State University’s Center for Agricultural and Rural Development.
