South Korea’s NEXEN produces 44% renewable tire

In South Korea, NEXEN TIRE has unveiled a demonstration tire composed of 52% sustainable materials, the majority (44%) of which can be attributed to natural rubber, biobased synthetic rubber, and silica derived from rice husk waste residue. The remaining 8% of sustainable content comes from polyester cord made from recycled polyethylene terephthalate bottles and bead wire from scrap iron.

“This research demonstrates our commitment to becoming one of the most forward-thinking tire companies in terms of ESG,” a NEXEN TIRE representative said in a press statement. “We looked into new technologies and identified opportunities for the future. As a result, our team’s dedication demonstrated our ability to produce a tire with 52% sustainable raw materials. NEXEN TIRE’s innovation in building a better future continues.”
