Pittsburgh International Airport to announce SAF production plans soon

June 14, 2023 |

In Istanbul, Aviation Week reported that Pittsburgh International Airport (PIT) is about to announce plans to produce sustainable aviation fuel on-site.

The airport is in the process of finalizing a request for information for SAF production that should be issued by July, according to the report.

However, Christina Cassotis, CEO of Allegheny County Airport Authority, which oversees developments at the airport, said that an announcement could be made sooner.

“We have already established contracts with a couple of hydrogen production companies, leveraging our natural gas resources to facilitate hydrogen production,” Cassotis said. “Our goal is to accelerate the adoption of cleaner and greener fuels and actively contribute to addressing the pressing global need within the aviation industry.”
