In the Philippines, Philippine News Agency reported that Misamis Oriental province is set to enter into a waste-to-energy program agreement with investors from China.
Provincial Board Member Gerardo Sabal III said the Provincial Board has permitted Governor Peter Unabia to enter into an agreement with Chinese investors as part of its renewable energy commitments.
“This is the vital solution for the main component of the Solid Waste Management Act, which is the Household Segregation,” he said.
The official said the deal allows the investors from China to collect waste in the province and turn it into resources for power generation.
A 2021 report from World Bank Organization indicated that the Philippines generates 2.7 million tons of garbage annually.
