In India, the Business Standard newspaper reports the country expects to have challenges achieving its 5% biodiesel blending mandate set for 2030 so is exploring the possibility of blending ethanol at low levels into fossil diesel to help achieve the target. Feedstock challenges remain the biggest obstacle to biodiesel production domestically despite policy providing financial incentives to help boost supplies. Currently BPCL and HPCL are testing ethanol blended into diesel in order to see if it could be a viable option at commercial scale.
