Naturgy to buy 25GWh annually from Spain’s first bioLNG facility

September 13, 2023 |

In Spain, Naturgy will promote the first BioLNG project in Spain within its commitment to the decarbonization of the current energy mix and innovation in sustainability. BioLNG is biomethane, a renewable gas produced from the recovery of waste, which in this case is liquefied to transport it to the final consumer. This process is essential to promote the decarbonization of transportation.

Within this commitment, Naturgy has already signed the first long-term purchase contract for renewable gas in liquid state. The agreement will entail the purchase of an annual production of 25 GWh of BioLNG obtained at the Sologas waste recovery plant in As Somozas (La Coruña), whose entry into operation is scheduled for the end of 2023.

ADDSynergy, from the Pietro Fiorentini Group, will be the company in charge of implementing a process that will allow the integrated production of BioLNG and liquid CO 2 to achieve the capture of CO 2 and increase the quality of BioLNG. This capture will grant a negative carbon intensity to the product, which represents a very relevant milestone to meet the decarbonization objectives committed by Spain.
