New Academic Partnerships Set Sail for Zero-Carbon Future

In Denmark, a Mærsk Mc-Kinney Møller Center for Zero Carbon Shipping press release announced a dynamic partnership with four leading academic institutions: the University of Michigan, Maritime Research Alliance, Norwegian University of Science and Technology, and World Maritime University. This collaboration heralds a significant step towards integrating industry and academia to advance the decarbonization of the maritime sector.

Bo Cerup-Simonsen, CEO of the Center, expressed his enthusiasm: “We are excited to welcome our first academic partners to the Center. As a science-based research and development organization, we are committed to both learning from academia and contributing to the academic community,” the release said.

The new partnerships are poised to enhance research and educational programs, aligning with industry needs and ecological stewardship, as noted by Professor David R. Dowling from the University of Michigan.

Professor Bjørn Egil Asbjørnslett, from Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) said, “Recently, the university has increased its activities in research and education on energy efficiency and emission reduction in maritime transport,” according to the statement.

Maximo Q. Mejia, Jr., President of the World Maritime University, underscored the partnership’s global impact, particularly in supporting developing countries and advancing the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
