In Greece, from June 3-7, Athens will host shipping exhibition Posidonia 2024 at the Athens Metropolitan Expo. The event will feature over 65 seminars and conferences, engaging top industry leaders in discussions critical to the future of maritime affairs.
A highlight of the week is the “Greener Shipping Summit 2024,” organized by Newsfront/Naftiliaki and backed by MARTECMA (Marine Technical Managers Association). Discussions will range from the management of next-generation vessels and educational strategies for the sector’s future, to the implementation of green technologies. Panelists including Dimitris Fafalios, Panos Kourkountis, and others, will explore a breadth of issues from energy transitions and digitalization to the adoption of carbon capture technologies.
In addition, a noteworthy seminar by the Greek Branch of SNAME titled “Nuclear Energy in Maritime: Fission and Fusion,” will examine the potential role of nuclear power in maritime propulsion. The seminar, featuring the CEOs of Fliber (pioneer of Molten Salt Reactor Technology) and nT-tao (compact fusion power) alongside major shipowners, will explore whether nuclear energy could indeed power the future of shipping.
