North Ammonia secures grid capacity for green ammonia production in Arendal

May 22, 2024 |

In Norway, North Ammonia AS has secured a reservation for 171 MW of grid capacity for a green ammonia production plant in Eydehavn, Arendal. This reservation from Statnett and Glitre Nett ensures ample grid capacity for the facility’s annual production of approximately 145,000 tonnes of green ammonia, positioning North Ammonia as a key player in the burgeoning green fuel market for the maritime industry in Norway and North-West Europe.

The project is slated for a final investment decision in 2025 and production commencement by 2028. Mikkel Tørud, CEO of North Ammonia said, “After applying for grid interconnection in 2021, we are now very happy to have secured this reservation. This is an important milestone and gives us a good basis for continuing the development of our facility in Eydehavn and reinforces Arendal’s position as an attractive location for green industrial development in Norway.”
