In Singapore, Proman Stena Bulk, a joint venture between Stena Bulk and Proman, has officially named its methanol tanker, Stena Prosperous, which will be bunkered with a 20/80 green/conventional methanol blend.
The methanol blend used on the 49,900 DWT IMOIIMeMAX will cut CO2e emissions by 31% compared to voyages using Very Low Sulphur Fuel Oil (VLSFO). This blend also reduces particulate matter, sulphur oxides, and nitrogen oxides, demonstrating methanol’s potential as a pathway fuel for decarbonizing the shipping industry.
Stena Prosperous is the sixth and final vessel in the joint venture’s fleet, with the first delivered in June 2022. The naming ceremony was attended by industry representatives and included a traditional christening by the vessel’s godmother, Mrs. Krisztina Grütter.
David Cassidy, CEO of Proman, praised Singapore’s role as a bunkering hub and emphasized methanol’s cleaner burning qualities. Erik Hånell, President and CEO of Stena Bulk, highlighted the progress made in the joint venture and the vessel’s contribution to decarbonization efforts. The six vessels in the fleet are now in commercial operation, showcasing methanol’s viability as a marine fuel.
