In the United Arab Emirates, CMB.TECH and Damen announced their collaboration on four hydrogen-powered ASD Tugs, featuring CMB.TECH’s dual fuel hydrogen technology to significantly reduce emissions.

Vincent Maes, Damen’s Area Sales Manager Benelux, expressed enthusiasm for the collaboration, highlighting the shared commitment of both family-owned companies to the maritime energy transition. “We’re looking forward to continuing our collaboration and developing the next steps to make our ports – and our world – a greener place,” Maes said.

Alexander Saverys, CEO of CMB.TECH, emphasized the importance of the contract, stating, “Tugboats are ideal assets to start the decarbonisation of port operations. With our hydrogen tugs, every port in the world will now be able to lower its carbon emissions and create demand for green hydrogen production.”

Lloyd’s Register’s granted an approval in principle (AiP) for the hydrogen technology to be installed in these tugs. Chief Commercial Officer, Andy McKeran, praised the initiative, noting that the AiP represents a cost-effective decarbonization solution for tugs, significantly reducing their emissions profile. He congratulated Damen and CMB.TECH on their innovative design, pledging ongoing support for the maritime energy transition.
