MAN Cryo to Design Hydrogen Supply Systems for Norwegian Net-Zero Ferries

June 4, 2024 |

In Norway, MAN Cryo has been selected by Torghatten Nord A/S, a Norwegian ferry company, to design and engineer hydrogen supply systems for two new RoPax ferries. This initiative is part of a Norwegian government effort to make major vessels on the mainland-Lofoten Islands route emission-free.

As part of MAN Energy Solutions, MAN Cryo specializes in cryogenic equipment for gas storage and handling. The company will design the bunkering systems, hydrogen piping, and vent masts for the new ferries. Additionally, MAN Cryo will serve as the system integrator for the hydrogen process plant, coordinating with other suppliers involved in the project.

The ferries, operating on green compressed hydrogen, are scheduled for delivery in 2026.

Henrik Malm, Managing Director of MAN Energy Solutions Sweden said, “In this way, we are contributing significantly to ‘Moving Big Things to Zero,’ testament to our vision for a cleaner, greener maritime future where innovation leads the way in reducing ecological footprints.”
