In Uzbekistan, the Times of Central Asia reports that South Korea’s Korea Western Power plans to build a biofuel plant using cotton stalks as feedstock in the Ferghana region of Uzbekistan that is expected to reduce emissions by 120,000 metric tons over the next decade. Targeting demand for clean energy by farmers, the fuel will then be offered as an alternative to coal-based heating in greenhouses in the region. A South Korean institute is also exploring building a “smart” greenhouse in the country to support the sector.
