Fratelli Cosulich Orders Two Chemical Bunkering Tankers

July 9, 2024 |

In Italy, Fratelli Cosulich Group announced an order for two methanol-ready chemical bunkering tankers from Taizhou Maple Leaf Shipbuilding Co., Ltd., with options for two additional units. The first of these 7,999 dwt IMO2 ships will be delivered in the first half of 2026.

An IMO2 ship is a chemical tanker designed to meet the International Maritime Organization’s Type 2 requirements. These ships carry hazardous chemicals and have safety features like double hulls and advanced systems to prevent spills and accidents. These newbuild vessels are designed to transport various cargoes, including fuel oil, biofuels, and methanol, enhancing their market versatility.

The company’s fleet already includes the small-scale LNG bunker vessels, Alice Cosulich and Paolina Cosulich, which are meeting the rising demand from LNG-fueled ships. Additionally, the fleet’s diversification supports a multi-fuel future, as demonstrated by Marta Cosulich, an IMO2 chemical bunker vessel capable of delivering biofuel and methanol, and another anticipated methanol-fueled vessel due in 2025.
