Decision regarding South Dakota law supporting pipelines included in Nov. general election

July 11, 2024 |

In South Dakota, the South Dakota Searchlight newspaper reports that a referendum question has been included in the Nov. 5 general elections that seeks to reject last year’s Senate Bill 201 that was approved by the Senate and the Governor that implement new protections for local governments and landowners regarding proposed pipeline projects. Opponents of the law, however, claim that it captulates to pipeline companies following the rejection of the Summit Carbon Solutions’ proposed carbon pipeline through the state by Public Utilities Commission. The company plans to reapply for permission after getting the green light from the Iowa Utilities Board, while the application in North Dakota is still pending.
