ScanOcean and Vegoil pioneer renewable marine fuel blend

July 31, 2024 |

In Sweden, ScanOcean and Vegoil have partnered to bunker B30-DMA fuel containing Swedish-produced Rapeseed Methyl Ester from Energifabriken at the port of Oskarshamn on the vessel “Key Fjord”.

This collaboration aims to leverage RME as a renewable feedstock for marine fuel blends, marking a significant step toward sustainable shipping. The B30-DMA fuel, certified under ISCC-EU standards, supports GHG emission reductions and improves vessels’ Carbon Intensity Indicator and Clean Shipping Index scores.

Lars Lövsund of ScanOcean said, “The green transition requires visionary companies to lead the charge, and we are proud to be part of this pioneering step.” Christopher Thelin of Vegoil added, “We hope to inspire other ship and cargo owners to take similar steps towards reducing GHG emissions.”

Sigbjørn Tysse of Seatank Chartering, which operates Key Fjord, expressed pride in supporting the initiative. “By adopting renewable marine fuels, we are setting a new standard for sustainable shipping solutions,” he said, highlighting their commitment to environmental management certified under ISO-14001-2015.
