In Brazil, Jornal Cana reports Brazilian cosmetics company Natura has introduced its first fleet of 20 biomethane gas-powered trucks, replacing traditional diesel models. This change affects 35% of the company’s heavy freight operations in Brazil.
The biomethane powered fleet includes 20 trucks and 50 trailers, and is expected to handle around 1,250 trips monthly. Initially, these vehicles will operate exclusively in São Paulo, transporting raw materials, inputs, and finished products for both Natura and Avon. Eduardo Sá, Natura’s Executive Director of Operations and Logistics, mentioned that expanding the routes depends on developing a network of green fuel stations.
In partnership with REITERLOG, this green fleet initiative will also significantly cut freight costs, saving approximately R$ 1.2 million annually. Previously, Natura’s diesel-powered vehicles consumed about 27,000 liters per month, emitting up to 768 tons of CO2 annually. The new biomethane fleet is projected to consume about 24,400 m³ of biomethane per month, reducing CO2 emissions by up to 630 tons per year.
