In Spain, Spanish energy company Cepsa announced it had begun trading biomethane, certified by the ISCC, to reduce emissions across its operations. The first purchase, 25 GWh of renewable gas from the Valdemingómez waste plant in Madrid, is being used to decarbonize Cespa’s chemicals business. Deliveries from this initial purchase will continue until January 2025.
Cepsa plans to manage 4 TWh of biomethane annually by 2030, expecting to significantly reduce CO2 emissions from its energy and chemicals operations while supporting green hydrogen production and sustainable mobility.
Cepsa’s Trading Director Alice Acuña said: “Our first biomethane purchase marks a significant step in our energy transition and decarbonization strategy. It promotes sustainable energy that can be used right away while also supporting the circular economy through the processing of organic waste.”
