In Washington D.C. U.S. Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm and Indian Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas Hardeep Singh Puri met to review the progress of the U.S.-India Strategic Clean Energy Partnership. The partnership seeks to enhance clean energy innovation, strengthen energy security, and accelerate the clean energy transitions in both countries. Key areas of progress include renewable energy deployment, energy storage solutions, and green hydrogen initiatives.
The ministers welcomed new collaboration on sustainable aviation fuels, emphasizing its importance in decarbonizing aviation. They applauded the development of joint reports on SAF and biofuels, as well as the convening of an inaugural SAF workshop focused on research, supply chain capacity building, and commercial partnerships. This collaboration marks a significant step toward diversifying fuel sources and reducing emissions in hard-to-abate sectors.
Other highlights included the launch of the Renewable Energy Technology Action Platform to advance hydrogen and offshore wind, alongside India’s electrification of medium- and heavy-duty vehicles. The ministers reiterated the importance of bilateral cooperation in scaling clean energy technologies and building resilient supply chains, positioning the U.S.-India partnership as pivotal in addressing global climate challenges while ensuring sustainable economic growth.
