In Brazil, Renewables Now reported that Brazilian metals and mining company Vale announced a partnership with European company Green Energy Park (GEP) to conduct feasibility studies for a green hydrogen plant in Brazil. Vale said that the main goal for the future unit is to supply a Mega Hub, an industrial complex designed to manufacture low-carbon steel products. Under this partnership, the partners will create a platform open to international steel companies that could acquire and produce hot-briquette iron (HBI) in the country. Specifically, Vale will use the Mega Hub to produce iron ore agglomerates, either pellets or briquettes, which will then serve as an input for HBI production with renewable hydrogen as the reducing agent, according to the report.
