In Bulgaria, Renewables Now reported that Australian low-carbon liquid fuels (LCLF) firm HAMR Energy has closed a $7.1 million Series A funding round, attracting backing from Airbus, Qantas and thyssenkrupp Uhde.
HAMR Energy said the investment will help it advance its LCLF projects which are intended to produce fuel from plantation forestry residues.
The company’s flagship project, Portland Renewable Fuels (PRF) in Victoria, will produce 300,000 tons per year of low-carbon methanol, which can be used directly as a shipping fuel or converted into sustainable aviation fuel. In addition, HAMR Energy is developing a methanol-to-jet fuel facility that will be capable of converting methanol into more than 135 million liters of SAF annually.
Honeywell will provide its UOP eFining process technology to enable renewable fuel production from methanol.
