In Wisconsin, the McFarland Thistle reports that the Dane County Board approved the construction of an anaerobic digester at the Menasha River Dairy. According to the article, this was after a two week delay caused by concerns regarding a similar digester suffering a spill in a nearby town.
A number of safety measures will be used, including construction of a berm around the digester, and various alarms and sensors. The article quotes Supervisor Marly Kolar as stating, “I am very comfortable with the safety measures… I ask people to consider that this is a means of energy production. Energy will be produced by a waste product. The digesters keep the phosphorous out of our lakes.”
