In Canada, a husband and wife duo have set up a biodiesel shipping company that transports organic produce from BC’s main organic fruit growing region to major markets in Calgary, while often backloading organic hay, feed and straw from Alberta to keep the small fleet of three refrigerated vehicles full as much as possible. In the first year of operations, during the fruit season of June to November, the duo delivered 250,000 pounds and traveled 100,000 kilometers. They produce biodiesel at their own farm from used cooking oil and can produce 150,000 liters a year, enough to ship 120,000 pounds of fruit a week.
