In Thailand, following lab tests confirming that molasses contains ammonia that could kill giant stingrays as happened recently in the Mae Klong River, the Pollution Control Department is preparing to launch a formal complaint against Rajburi Ethanol for illegally discharging molasses-containing wastewater into the river between October 1 and 7.The company admitted there had been a wastewater leak on September 30. The wastewater is thought to then have been lodged into a part of the river that couldn’t move due to high tide, suffocating aquatic life including the stingrays.
