In Brazil, the government is aiming to target sugar mills’ reticence to produce ethanol in light of high sugar prices by releasing a Biorenova 2030 policy during the first quarter of next year but no concrete proposals have been communicated yet. Part of the policy’s aim is to increase ethanol consumption in line with the country’s Paris commitments, which should reach 50 billion liters per year by 2030 from the current 28 billion liters. UNICA has asked for additional taxes to be piled onto fossil fuels, for example.
