In the UK, the Press and Journal newspaper reports that Acorn Bioenergy is seeking permission to build a biogas project in the Scottish Highlands. The proposed £55 million facility would process energy crops as well as agricultural and whisky distillers waste into biogas that would then be injected into the gas grid near Inverness. The company plans to develop two other biogas plants in the region for a total investment of £105 million over the next two years. It already has permission to inject 176,600 cubic feet of biomethane into the grid to heat Scottish homes.
