AIDA Cruises pursues biofuel future in pilot test with 100% renewable fuel

September 10, 2024 |

In the Netherlands, Offshore Energy reports AIDA Cruises refueled its cruise ship “AIDAprima” in Rotterdam with 100% renewable Bio Marine Fuel as part of its ongoing effort to evaluate alternative fuels that reduce greenhouse gas emissions by at least 85%. This biofuel, sourced from organic waste and provided by VARO Energy, is being tested during regular voyages through Norway’s fjords to assess its suitability for the cruise line’s future fleet. The project is part of AIDA’s larger commitment to decarbonize its operations and meet net-zero emissions by 2050, focusing on advanced fuels that require no significant engine modifications.

The initiative reflects the cruise industry’s broader goal of reducing emissions and contributing to environmental sustainability while preparing for stricter future regulations. AIDA Cruises has been actively exploring various biofuels since 2022, aligning with Carnival Corporation’s sustainability objectives.
