allnex joins AGC VinyThai and MSU in biobased epoxy coatings pact

August 5, 2024 |

In Thailand, allnex, an industrial coatings and resins firm owned by PTT Global, has joined an ongoing biobased epoxy coating development project between AGC VinyThai and Michigan State University Professor Mojgan Nejad.

AGC Vinythai has worked with Nejad to explore the use of lignin as a bisphenol A substitute to boost the biobased content of coatings and epoxy resin formulations.  “By completely replacing Bisphenol A with technical lignins and using bio-based epichlorohydrin from AGC Vinythai, we’re paving the way for greener, more sustainable coatings,” Nejad said in a press statement.   Florian Lunzer, Director, Strategic Research, allnex said, the project will bring lower carbon footprint and BPA-free epoxy solutions to the markets allnex serves. The project is expected to run until October 2026.
