In Massachusetts, Ameresco announced it was selected by Wasatch Integrated Waste Management District to develop a renewable natural gas facility at Davis Landfill, Utah, expected to reduce over 953 million pounds of carbon dioxide emissions each year. This project, leveraging methane from decomposing organic waste, marks Ameresco’s second initiative with the district.
Michael Bakas, Executive Vice President of Ameresco, stated, “Leveraging waste byproducts to displace the use of fossil fuel is a critical part of our nation’s clean and renewable energy transition.” The facility is expected to replace over 8 million BTUs annually of fossil fuels, aligning with both organizations’ long-term commitment to sustainable waste management. Nathan Rich, Executive Director of WIWMD, remarked, “Turning an environmental liability into a renewable energy source is a great way to meet the mission of the district.”
