ANA taps Marubeni for cheaper SAF at Narita Airport

June 18, 2024 |

In Japan, Asia Nikkei reported that Marubeni has begun supplying All Nippon Airways (ANA) with lower-emissions sustainable aviation fuel produced in South Korea by a method that cuts the cost. The SAF is being procured from HD Hyundai Oilbank, then supplied from a Marubeni unit in Chiba prefecture, near Tokyo, to Narita Airport by pipeline, according to the report. The report highlighted that initial investment and other costs can be kept down because the fuel can be produced at existing refineries without building a dedicated SAF plant. The SAF supplied to ANA reduces carbon dioxide emissions by as much as 80% compared with standard aviation fuel, the report added.
