In Brazil, Association of Biofuel Producers of Brazil (Aprobio) released a note on Tuesday defending the adoption of the mandatory mixture of 20% of biodiesel with fossil diesel from 2024. The request was announced after the installed production capacity almost doubled compared to the current demand.
“Aprobio defends the progressive increase with predictability and legal certainty up to B20 as soon as possible and the adoption of at least B20 in all diesel sold in Brazilian metropolitan regions starting next year”, points out in a note the president of the Council of Administration of Aprobio, Francisco Turra.
According to Turra, “there is installed capacity to produce almost double the current demand and the possibility of meeting mix expansion is immediate”.
“Biodiesel is a market opportunity with high technical maturity and ready to be expanded with low transition costs, without requiring advance investments and forcing fleet renewal”, argues Turra.
The topic is expected to be included in the “Fuel of the Future” Bill (PL 4516/23), which creates a new reporting framework for the biofuels sector in the country. Although the text does not address the mandatory mixing levels of biodiesel, the project’s rapporteur, deputy Arnaldo Jardim (Cidadania/SP) stated yesterday that he has analyzed requests for amendments in this regard.
