In Australia, the Australian Broadcasting Corp. reports Department of Agriculture data showed that biodiesel demand drove tallow exports to above A$1 billion ($652 million ) for the first time in 2022/23. Of the 550,000 metric tons of tallow produced in 2022/23, 450,000 tons were exported. Australia has been exporting tallow for more than a century, originally sending it to the UK for making candles and cooking oil, but now the US and Singapore make up 90% of the export markets with much of it going towards biofuel production. Prices have doubled and even tripled compared to the norm in recent years.
