Australian waste-to-energy project Kwinana Energy nears completion

August 2, 2024 |

In Germany, Euwind reported that the Kwinana Energy Recovery plant in Western Australia recently received its first waste delivery, according to Keppel Seghers Belgium.

The company has supplied the incineration technology for the facility’s two waste processing lines, including their air-cooled grate and vertical boiler systems. The waste-to-energy project located south of the city of Perth is currently slated for completion in the fourth quarter of 2024, according to the report.

Once the facility reaches the end of the commissioning process, it is to be operated and maintained by the French environmental services company Veolia for a period of 25 years.

The Kwinana plant has a design capacity of up to 460,000 tons of waste per year. This will make it capable of treating around a quarter of the residual waste generated by Perth’s two million residents, the report added.

The project’s original investors Macquarie Capital and Dutch Infrastructure Fund (DIF) agreed to sell their holdings in the plant to its engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contractor Acciona in March of this year.
