Itochu to export US ethanol to Brazil to alleviate shortage

In the US, Japan’s Itochu plans to begin exporting at least 100 million liters of American ethanol to Brazil beginning in early 2012 in order to supply the national market there. In conjunction with Bunge, the company owns ethanol production in Tocantins and Minas Gerais states in Brazil.

19 US ethanol plants shut for fall maintenance, US production dips 8K barrels

In the US, national ethanol production fell 8,000 barrels during the week ending Sept. 16, partly due to 19 of the country’s 209 ethanol plants shutting down during that period for fall maintenance. Gasoline demand is down roughly 1.9% on the year.

In Illinois, the Chicago Mercantile Exchange is developing a futures contract for Brazilian ethanol. The company has US-based ethanol futures contracts as well as Rotterdam-based.
