#7 Massive EU consortium eyes legume, mushroom, and coffee wastes as feedstocks

In Europe, a consortium of 17 partners from 8 countries has been formed to explore ways to convert waste from legumes, mushrooms, and coffee into useful products.
The PROLIFIC project will receive over €4.5 million (US$5.11 million) from the Bio-Based Industries Joint Undertaking, a public-private partnership between the European Union and the Bio-based Industries Consortium.
The partners will work to recover proteins and bioactive molecules such as fibers and polyphenols from processing waste. Targeted products include food products, feed for poultry and pigs, bioactive packaging materials, and cosmetics.
