In Amsterdam, the PEFerence consortium has announced completion of the world’s first large-scale biorefinery to produce polyethylene furanoate precursor furan dicarboxylic acid (FDCA).
PEFerence, a consortium of 13 companies looking to advance PEF as a lower-carbon, biobased alternative in the production of bottles, flexible films and textiles, said an official opening ceremony for the 5,000 tons per year plant built by consortium lead Avantium will be held on October 22.
Coinciding with the ceremony, PEFerence and Renewable Carbon Plastics will also co-organize the first PEF World Congress, to be held in Düsseldorf, Germany October 30-31st. The event will serve as an international platform to discuss innovative FDCA and PEF applications.
In addition to Avantium, the PEFerence consortium also includes Carlsberg Group, Henkel, Kebony, LEGO, LVMH Beauty, Nestec, nova-Institute, OMV Machinery, Spinverse Oy, TEREOS and Worley.
