#10 Bio-on launches fashion materials business

In Bologna, biobased products company Bio-on has created a new business unit for bioplastics for the fashion and luxury products sectors. Dubbed Fashion Development Materials, the business will work to develop new materials based on Minerv PHA bioplastics.

The goal is to identify processes, technologies and patents to produce fabrics, yarns, and flexible surfaces, films made of PHA. According to Bio-on, synthetic fibers are released into the environment, causing similar environmental effects as microbeads. Fashion Development Material (FDM) is added to the 5 business units that Bio-on created one year ago: Bio-on Plants; Cosmetic, Nanomedicine & Smart Materials (CNS); Recovery and Fermentation (RAF); Engineering (ENG) e Structural Materials Development (SMD).
