#8 Peace of Meat reports chicken-free chicken fat milestone

In Israel, cultured meat technology developer MeaTech Group says its Belgian subsidiary Peace of Meat has manufactured 700 grams of animal-free chicken fat in a single production run.

The company is betting on fat to be a key enabler for hybrid meat products, providing the aromas, flavors, and textures of real meat to plant-based meat alternatives.

“Producing this quantity of pure cultured material in one run is a breakthrough towards potentially manufacturing cultivated chicken fat at an industrial scale and cost parity,” says David Brandes, Managing Director, Peace of Meat, in a press statement. “The product, pending novel foods approval, is designed to be just like conventional chicken fat. Our shorter-term goal is that this type of cultured chicken cells can be commercialized by MeaTech in strategic hybrid product development collaborations.”
