In Iowa, Governor Terry Branstad and Growth Energy has formed America’s Renewable Future aimed to bring biofuels policy back into the spotlight on the 2016 campaign trail amidst low oil prices and numerous setbacks. The need to lobby in the biggest biofuels producing state in the country demonstrates a new landscape in the renewables industry, said Dee Davis, President of the Center for Rural Strategies in Kentucky.
Of the campaign itself, Eric Branstad, the governor’s son and a group organizer, said “We are designing it to look like a presidential campaign, but the RFS is our candidate. We’re going to be talking to people” and making the presidential candidates respond, he said on a conference call.
