In Brazil, Platts reports data from the ANP fuels agency shows ethanol sales were down nearly 12% in 2020 at 28.93 billion liters, largely as a result of people staying off the roads due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Hydrous ethanol sales were down 14.6% while anhydrous ethanol sales fell 6.1% last year compared to the year prior. By year’s end, ethanol sales were much lower than during the summer at the peak of lockdowns, indicating that demand might be starting to recover.
