Chairman of Iowa House Judiciary Committee says eminent domain for pipelines unconstitutional

In Iowa, Radio Iowa reports that Republican Representative Steven Holt, chairman of the Iowa House Judiciary Committee, is pushing back against the potential use of eminent domain to support the proposed Summit Carbon Solutions pipeline, saying such a tool is only to be used for clear public use and public benefit, and has alluded to the Iowa Utilities Board not having the authority to approve its use. He said that using eminent domain for economic development projects goes against the state’s constitution.
