In India, Media24 News reports the Chhattisgarh government launched a major green hydrogen initiative at the Global Renewable Energy Investor Meet in Gujarat, aiming to attract investment and enhance renewable energy production under its new industrial policy for 2024-29.
The state government, represented by Chief Minister Vishnudev Sai and Energy Secretary P. Dayanand, presented its vision for a green economy, encouraging investors to seize opportunities in renewable energy, including green hydrogen.
Chhattisgarh Biofuel Development Authority CEO Sumit Sarkar emphasized the region’s abundant biomass resources, such as agricultural waste and dairy byproducts, which can be harnessed for large-scale green hydrogen production. This move is set to benefit Chhattisgarh’s industrial sectors, including steel, food processing, and fertilizer manufacturing, by providing an eco-friendly energy alternative.
The state’s push aligns with India’s national Green Hydrogen Mission, which aims to produce 5 million metric tonnes of green hydrogen by 2030. Chhattisgarh’s efforts are expected to play a crucial role in meeting this target while contributing to energy security and sustainability. The new industrial policy also promises incentives for investors, alongside the creation of new employment opportunities in the green energy sector.
