#8 Cactus leather helps costume vegan Vikings: Valhalla star Sam Corbett

In Ireland, costume designers on the set of Netflix hit “Vikings: Valhalla” have swapped out animal leather for a cactus-based alternative for the comfort of vegan cast member Sam Corlett.

In a recent interview, Corlett shared that he found it challenging to wear leather. “I hadn’t worn leather in a long time,” he said. “The costume at the start was all leather, and so that was quite overwhelming.” Corlett stars as Leif Erikson, a Norse explorer thought to have been the first European to set foot on continental North America.

Because the show is set in the 11th century, authentic looking costumes require heavy use of leather, fur and wool.

According to figures quoted by Plant Based News, vegan leather is expected to be a $90 billion business by 2025.
