#10 43-mile journey completed by fuel-cell drone made by Doosan Mobility, the DOE, and Skyfire
In the Virgin Islands, Doosan Mobility Innovation, members of the DOE, and Skyfire Consulting have successfully completed an open-ocean drone flight to bring 40 simulation vials and health supplies from St. Croix to St. Thomas, a 43-mile journey. Through the help of Doosan, the drone was powered by Doosan’s proprietary fuel cell power pack that enables long-endurance flight for different commercial drone models and applications. The successful test flight brings the Virgin Islands closer to a more timely medical delivery system, an endeavor that has increased in prominence following the destruction caused by Hurricane Maria. In order to become mainstream, these fuel-cell drones will need to be able to fly in 80-90% of weather conditions.
